Competitions

Level is based on WSDC registry points https://www.worldsdc.com/registry-points/

• Newcomer – Available to those that do not wish to compete in Novice and don’t have 1 Newcomer point (or 1+ Novice point)
• Novice – Open to any dancer that does not have 30+ Novice points and does not wish to compete in Intermediate
• Intermediate – Open to any dancer with at least 16 Novice points, but less than 45 Intermediate points (or 1+ Advanced point)
• Advanced – Open to any dancer that has at least 30 Intermediate points, but less than 90 Advanced points (or 1+ All Star point)
• All Star – Open to any dancer with at least 60 Advanced points

• Masters Jack & Jill – Dancer(s) must be at least 50 years of age to compete in Masters

• Competitors will be randomly partnered with a dancer in the adjoining level (i.e., Hi -Lo) — to the best of the contest coordinator's ability each Hi will be paired with a Lo
• High: Advanced, Allstar, and Champion Level Dancers
• Low: Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate Level Dancers

• Ams (Non-Pros) sign up with a Pro to dance together and compete against other Ams of the same division!

• This contest is for everyone’s entertainment. The exhibition will consist of your Swing Crush Pro-Staff and the 1st place All Star Jack & Jill Winners!

The intent of leveling workshops is to provide an atmosphere of growth and development for each and every dancer. If you feel you may benefit more from a higher level workshop track – whether you don’t compete or haven’t competed enough to earn points for the next division – there will be 2 opportunities to audition up. The first will be Friday at 4pm in the Main Ballroom and the next is on Saturday at 9am in Side Room 1. 

• Workshops for all skill levels
• The instructor(s) are asked to teach to all skill levels with the assumption that every student knows their basic 6 and 8 count patterns

• Novice and up (wsdc)
• Anyone may join level 1 workshops
• Instructors are asked to teach skills that are needed based on their perception of the Novice field of dancers seen during their current travels

• Intermediate/Advanced (wsdc)
• Minimum 1 Intermediate point or approval through one of the auditions
• Instructors are asked to teach advanced concepts which may take time (more than the hour workshop time) to absorb 

• Advanced/All Star (wsdc)
• Minimum 1 Advanced Point or approval through one of the auditions
• Instructors are asked to challenge students and push the class past their comfort zone

• This will be a deep dive into a core concept the instructors believe to be best suited for Novice and Intermediate level dancers
• The intensive is 2 hours of hyper focused material for the analytical minds and those that desire strong practical application

• Spotlight critiques are great for those that desire feedback on their presentation as a lead or as a follow – this can be as a social dancer, heated competitive dancer, or a finals spotlight dancer
• During the 2 hours, you have an opportunity to participate, and absorb information from feedback given to other dancers
• Conveniently scheduled before All Star Spotlight Finals!
• Open to all Advanced and All Star Level dancers!

• The 1.5 hour Breakdown is available to those that want guidance on how to manage the dance during a spotlight
• Conveniently scheduled before Intermediate and Advanced Spotlight Finals
• Open to all Intermediate and Advanced Level Dancers!
